It may seem surprising,
but 1 in 4 of us will suffer from some form of psychological problem at some
point in our lives. The vast majority of these problems have their basis in
anxiety, but the presenting problems and symptoms may vary extremely.
Most people are familiar
with the term phobias, irrational fear of objects or places, but this type
of problem is relatively uncommon. However, generalised anxiety caused by
excessive worry, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder and depression
are very common problems, as are the problems associated with trauma (either
a single event or prolonged stress situations producing post traumatic
stress disorder {PTSD}), abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) and bereavement
or relationship problems.
Eating problems
(including obesity), low self esteem, anger and guilt are also often
associated with long term stress situations.
Many suffer for years
before seeking psychological advice; often because they are afraid they
might be going mad or are in some way abnormal.
YOU’RE NOT!!
Psychological problems are as common as a cut finger!
Help is at hand whether
child or adult. I can offer you a full psychological assessment and advice
on the best course of action. If needed, an individual intervention
programme can be undertaken to address the issues. This will be based on
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the most successful type of
psychological intervention technique.
